Why is it important for good wellbeing?

It is a time when the brain processes information and makes connections, facilitating problem solving, creativity and innovative thinking. Quality sleep is key to good cognitive performance and physical wellbeing as well as being a key way to process stress and anxiety. However, it is often overlooked in comparison to diet and exercise.  Sleep is essential for good physical/mental health and performance. Most of us are aware of the importance of diet, exercise and relaxation in maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. However, we tend not to give the same importance to sleep. Sleep deprivation and poor quality sleep can impact not only wellbeing but performance at work and critically may have health and safety implications.

 Research shows that:

  • Managers with poor quality sleep have poorer performing teams.
  • People who are not sleep deprived earn more.
  • Sleep helps immune system function.
  • Poor sleep is linked to poor metabolic health and obesity.
  • Poor sleep negatively impacts decision making.
  • Inadequate sleep can be a health and safety risk.

What is sleep therapy?

It includes understanding how the brain works in relation to sleep, stress and other external factors. Workshops consist of understanding how factors such as routine, environment, stimulants and thoughts influence our sleep and how we can optimise these for better sleep.  1:1 therapeutic sessions also include the use of techniques for reducing stress and changing habits.

If you are wondering how you might harness the power of sleep within your organisation, either through our wellbeing programmes or 1:1 employee programmes, please get in touch for further information.
